Parth J. Shah is the founder president of Centre for Civil Society and the founder of National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA), a federation of 80,000 budget private schools in India. Dr. Shah’s research and advocacy work focuses on the themes of economic freedom (law, liberty and livelihood campaign), choice and competition in education (fund students, not schools), property rights approach for the environment (terracotta vision of stewardship), and good governance (new public management and the duty to publish).
He has edited and published extensively in international and Indian journals and popular press on various issues ranging from currency regulation to education policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Auburn University, and has taught at the University of Michigan. He has been a visiting faculty at JNU and MS University and has served on the Senate of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh and of Tamil Nadu. He has been a member of several state and union government task forces, including the education task force of the governments of Delhi and Karnataka.
